Solar Tax Credit Falls Off Bill

Washington, DC (May 11, 2004) - The Senate today passed the FSC/ ETI bill with its attached energy tax sections.

The FSC/ETI bill as passed by the U.S. Senate included a 15% tax credit for solar energy systems but the conference version of the bill did not.  Of 299 amendments offered to the bill, not one was for the solar tax credit, although the Production Tax Credit for wind was renewed and extended to solar electric generators who sell power to utilities.  Unfortunately this is only useful to large installations who are actually in the business of selling power. It is disappointing to those of us who have been watching this legislation in the hope that the solar tax credit would return through this bill.  We will be looking to see where the solar tax credit can reappear and will let you know here when it does.
